Corona Virus Pandemic & Diabetes

Dear all,

I hope this finds you in good health, as you have all heard, Corona Virus also known as COVID-19 flu virus has been declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a pandemic. This means that the virus has spread to many countries and continents as we are all aware of.

As of today morning, the Kenyan Government has announced one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Nairobi.

The Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, mentioned in a briefing that the patient is a woman who is in stable condition and had arrived in Nairobi, Kenya from the U.S through London. She is currently being managed at The Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

With that said, it is important to not panic and ensure we all follow the recommended hygiene precautions as explained in the last few weeks. The virus has been shown to spread via droplet spread and therefore make sure you and people around you do the following:

1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Make sure you do it for at least 20seconds.

2. Use an alcohol based sanitizer frequently.

3. Maintain distance between you and anyone who is coughing or sneezing (at least 1 metre)

4. Practice good respiratory hygiene. E,g if you cough or sneeze cover your mouth and nose with the bent elbow or tissue and ensure you dispose the tissue immediately.

5. Avoid touching your face, mouth and nose frequently.

6. Avoid crowded areas.

For patients with Diabetes, ensure maximum glucose control. When your blood glucose is well controlled, it improves your overall immunity, enabling your body to fight any disease better.

Keep safe.

Kind regards:
